Man has been able to tame the world. He has been able to go deep in the world’s deepest oceans deepest caves in search of the unknown.  While in search of the unknown during these dangerous voyages in the natural habitat of the unknown, there have always been costs in times of money, time manpower, and a lot of research which grinds to a halt due to luck of knowledge of the unknown and the ability to perceive what is just limited to man. 

Despite the fact that man has carried on with research about endangered species, the gravity of the endangerment has just come to the limelight of many of the people of the world who cherish these beautiful animals on earth and the plight of the future animals as habitat loss, deforestation and the thirst for more animal product which is deeply entrenched in many cultures of Africa where bush meet is a delicacy which supplies the proteins at a relatively low cost and is used with many rituals,  Asia where endangered animals are often used for their medicinal purposes,  Europe home to many dangerous and beautiful  endangered animals where hunting for pleasure and for the use of these animals for research has created a hue and cry from many of the animal lovers and animal right groups and even America where endangered  animals have ended up in captivity as a result of people buying animals and keeping them as pets which has seen fatalities as a results of animal attacks within the human habitat as well.

The dire need for these animal parts or body parts has not been able to stop man in pursuing the endangered species in our today’s world even to hunt them by all means to see the last bit of their product and flourish in the worlds market while in the hands of the chosen few who have no fear about endangered animals but the love of endangered animals for their own satisfaction.


When you come to think of it, how did this process of animals become endangered? Do we need to go back in time to find the process or people are just aware how animals are becoming endangered and there is no mechanism which can bring this process of animals becoming extinct or endangered. If Africa had animals roaming the vast continent, how come there are only a few thousands animals concentrated in the African Savannah and mostly in Kenya and Tanzania? Where did it all go wrong?

If the scramble for Africa meant looking for raw material and market for the finished goods, when did people realize the need to start conserving these animals for the future. Oil once seed as the black gold, people all over the world have seen the advantages and disadvantages of this black gold. While the real black diamond in may of the African continent has brought not only people to be endangered and their own way of life come to a grinding halt and being displaced in the name of development and the way forward, many of these countries where these minerals, animals and resources are not fully utilized by the inhabitants of these beautiful regions. While the rest o f the world devise ways and means of improving the plight of animals and the endangered animals as well, the realization to the masses has just not sink in. While people talk of democracy and human and animal rights, do all these laws, rights and customers land on deaf ears? How about the plight of animals which don't have a say but only act on their own natural instincts and are only aware that they are here to roam the land and to pass on their gean to the next generation.


Despite the fact that nature, our way of life has influenced the trend in which animals have become extinct and become endangered, people need to realize that there is always a connection between our action and the way animals ram this earth. Animals in the wilderness and animals in the great seas and oceans do play a very important part in the cycle of the earth. While the great salmons leave the great oceans and travel miles and miles to lay eggs and end their life, the process of that journey across the plains and valleys wilderness and forests of the different parts of the world are nourished by these creatures. As a natural wonder of the world and a process which started many years ago, man has not yet fully understood why such fish should make these dangerous trips. With nature taking its course, there are those fish which make it while some become victims of circumstances. 


The same picture can clearly be depicted when the great animal migration at the Serengeti and Maasai Mara take place. Has man really understood what this processes and how it affects our lives and the way animals live. Man has constantly encroached the animal habitat allover the world. Whether for his own development or as a result of mans action. The need for ray material and excavation of land, the cutting down of forest and trees to satisfy manes daily needs and wants in order for him to service and as a result of cutting down trees, this is what normally kicks in the cycle of action. Many rivers have seen their own journey come to an end. The beautiful plains which used to feed other animals have seen an influx of other animal species dwindling as a result of the land carrying capacity being over stretched by the animals and wildlife  inhabiting in that part of the world. If people could just listen to animals, they would fully understand the way animals become endangered and how they become extinct.

Take for example, may of the animals which migrate from one area to another area used to move at their own pace. When man decides to chance his lifestyle and does not accommodate the plight of wildlife as far as their perspective is concerned in the name of development, many animal corridors and migratory routs are always in danger and hence the onset and the dis-balance of the animal to be endangered. What has man done in order to help solve the problem as far as his intelligence is telling him to do? Fences and grids have been erected in may of the remaining animal habitats to control their movements as a result of the new national boundaries and the demarcation of land which has been taking place from decades. If animals were born free to roam the land, do their rights need to be infringed or they are the ones which infringe our rights as their intelligence is not as sharp as we humans have.

No animal is at home at the African savannah other than the endangered cheetah with vast open dangerous animal habitat to practice is running skills.  Being the fastest animal on earth, the Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) a member of the endangered big cats is one of the greatest animal safaris must see. The endangered cheetah runs up to 65 miles per hour (100 kph) in the wilderness while hunting big and small animals such as impalas, gazelles, rabbits, birds, and other small animals. Cheetahs in the wild are known to stay for about 8 years in the wild while the cheetahs in captivity or in zoos can live for a bout 10 years.  With the demand for the cheetah’s skin on the rise and loss of natural habitat and the cheetah’s breeding grounds, the numbers of cheetahs I the wilderness has dwindled hence the need to in cooperate the cheetah in the endangered species list.

The African Wild Hunting Dog  Scientific Name Lycaon pictus  is one of the most dangerous endangered dog breeds which not only attacks any other animal in the African savannah but can take as many other dangerous animals in the African Savannah natural habitat . With their great numbers these African hunting dogs are home to Africa and some of the best dogs to watch on an animal safari.  The Lycaon pictus means "painted wolf-like animal in Latin language  and as the  cape hunting dog you get that the this African wild dog is listed by the IUCN as threatened by extinction. Demise of their hunting grounds, pest and diseases are some of the reasons why the African wild dog is endangered.

When you talk of rhinos, people are always overwhelmed by the sheer size of the rhino horns, its massive body and its agility to move with great speed. Whether it is a black rhino or a white rhino or a two horned rhino or a one horned rhino, these beautiful animals just as the Africa elephant and the Indian elephant have all followed the same fate. Parching of the white rhino has been the cause of this beautiful animal to become endangered The Southern White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum ssp. simum) is now listed as Near Threatened. While this rhino species was almost going extinct, there are many success stories about the world wide conservation of the white rhino and especially the efforts made in south Africa and Zimbabwe which have been partly conserving while at the same time allowing big game hunting of the rhino while illegal parching has increased and in the absence of conservation efforts this species could become threatened very quickly. In contrast, the Northern White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum ssp. cottoni) is on the brink of extinction and is now listed as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct in the Wild). The only known wild population in the Garamba National Park and surrounding areas in the Democratic Republic of Congo is thought to have gone extinct. While substantial efforts to find the Northern White Rhino in the wild have been unsuccessful. In the whole world the species Ceratotherium simum is currently said to be Near Threatened

There is no animal as powerful as compared to the “The father of all apes” and the most beautiful animals in the land of the mountains of the moon. Civil war, parching and hunted for their meat, the Western Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla) was up listed from Endangered to Critically Endangered in 2007 after the Western Lowland Gorilla (G. g. gorilla) subspecies. With the change of civil order in the central African republics mainly Rwanda Burundi Uganda and Congo where these beautiful animals reside in clans, the Western Gorilla saw a decline in its population which made the gorillas to become endangered in many parts of Africa and especially as one of the most important animal in the African rainforest habitat. Hunting of the Western Gorilla and deaths caused by Ebola were the main causes of decrease in the Western Gorilla population and as a spill over effect decline of the Western Gorilla combined with these threats continued to have an effect the Western Lowland Gorilla population as well.

As investigation of Ebola outbreaks reveal that if this dangerous disease continues to wipe out these gorillas at its current rate and trajectory, then the Western Lowland Gorilla abundance in all current protected areas could decrease by 45% between 1992 and 2011. While the Western Lowland Gorilla makes up most of the current Western Gorilla population in the wild and the world at large. The other subspecies, Cross River Gorilla (G. g. diehli), was first listed as Critically Endangered in 1996. With fewer than 200 mature adults remaining in this population and ongoing habitat loss, it is still a highly threatened subspecies and remains in the Critically Endangered category.

Where in the world is the perfect place for an animal to get extinct or to become endangered. Given the dangerous climatic conditions with luck or rainfall for decades, political and civil unrest and the sheer fact that the world had to unite to come and help save the African nations just clearly shows the magnitude of how wild animals can become endangered and vulnerable given the ground reality of habitat loss and luck or proper feeding grounds and loss of wafer and animals being hunted down to the last standing animal species. With such endangered conditions for most of the animals in Ethiopia the plight of humans themselves becoming endangered out of drought and civil unrest gives many of the animals no chance to survive.

According to the IUCN, the Ethiopian Wolf (Canis simensis) is listed as an endangered animal in many parts of Ethiopia and some parts of Kenya, Sudan and Somali. These beautiful Ethiopian wolves are located on the highlands of Ethiopia in northeast Africa. At the moment, there are around 360–440 adults endangered Ethiopian wolves surviving un the wilderness.

The endangered Ethiopian wolf species is less common because of habitat loss and the destruction of forests and its feeding and breeding grounds which have been turned into agricultural lands. Pest and diseases has also played a part in the eradication of the Ethiopian wolves as many animals have been infected with rabies which is a threat to all animals in the natural habitat

Oryx (Oryx dammah)

Why would such beautiful animals go extinct or become near extinction such as the Scimitar-horned Oryx (Oryx dammah)?  This endangered Oryx (Oryx dammah) was one of the thriving animals in Africa as one of the largest mammals of northern Africa. With all the Sahara desert at its disposal, the Oryx (Oryx dammah) was the most beautiful animal to be seen by the barbers and the African Safari caravans which moved across the sand dunes and oasis of the Sahara desert and the north African region. What was the cause of these Oryx (Oryx dammah) to become endangered? Like many of the other endangered animal species of Africa, Asia and Europe, overhunting for the animal’s meat, the beautiful strong hide and magnificent horns which was used in ornaments and for decoration, combined with habitat loss and caused major declines in the Oryx (Oryx dammah) species
